A New Haven firefighter was asleep in his bunk at the Fire Station at about 2 AM Thursday when the alarm went off. As he was responding to the house fire, he realized that the address was his house. He was among the first to arrive at the fire. His wife and kids got out safely. DCFD Chief Kenneth Ellerbee had said that he would punish anyone who wore unauthorized logos. Lt. Robert Alvarado, the most outspoken critic of the new clothing policy, was sent home from work for wearing an unauthorized DCFD logo on a jacket to keep warm.
